Many may tell you that dogs naturally resist rattlesnake venom, unfortunately while some dogs may have a higher tolerance not all would survive an encounter.
Dogs trained to recognize rattlesnakes through sight, sound & smell are better equipped to avoid such encounters.
Though we hope you never have to put it to the test!
The majority of our classes are $125 per dog. Some locations (such as Colorado) are $150 a dog - the higher rate is due to the substantial distance we travel to provide this training.
Private Sessions:
Private events can be requested in Northern Nevada. We generally hold these sessions in the month of August/September, during which time our travels have slowed down.
Rate is $150/dog + $25 - $75 setup fee (this fee varies depending on distance we travel & can be split among all in attendance).
After the first session we always recommend a follow up within a year but no sooner than 6 months.
The first 2 consecutive trainings are the most crucial, especially if your pup is a year or younger.
While many people do get refresher training every year for the peace of mind, for most dogs it is not necessary. After the first two recommended sessions, we can share our opinion on if your pup needs an annual reminder or not, but It is completely your call and we are always happy to see familiar faces every year.
If your dog has been through this training at least 4 times, please let us know!
We like to really put them to the test and go through the course without the e-collar.
While we have always remained neutral about the vaccine, there is now enough information out there showing the vaccine is largely ineffective and potentially causes more harm than it helps!

We recommend pups be at least 6 months of age for this training.
For pups younger we are happy to do a quick on-site evaluation to determine if they are ready for this course or if they need to mature a bit more.
Each dog is different, but an average dog takes about 10 - 15 minutes to go through our training. However, we pride ourselves in taking time to make sure each dog leaves with a healthy experience and gets it. We will spend extra time with a dog if we feel it is needed.
Plan to be with us for up to one full hour
Yes!!
It is absolutely necessary to use live rattlesnakes for this type of training.
Dogs have an incredible sense of smell and yes, rattlesnakes smell different than bullsnakes and other species.

For liability and insurance purposes; no.
And so far, we haven’t met a dog that we couldn’t walk through the training. Even with the most nervous or insecure dog, we use love, good leadership energy, and patience. We never get mad at a dog who doesn’t want to walk with us. We smile and get creative.
There may be occasions where it ends up being necessary for you to assist us and/or walk your dog through the course.
When that happens, our trainer will guide you every step of the way.
Please bring your dog on a secure leash to keep him/her safe and restrained while waiting for your turn, but otherwise we use our own collars and leashes during the training. Please feel free to bring your dog’s favorite toy or cookies to keep them entertained while waiting their turn!
Yes! E-collars. We do utilize them for our training.
E-collars have come a long way as technology advances, and are a common tool used by many trainers and owners.
They are safe and effective when used correctly.
We use Dogtra e-collars during our training. These collars have a wide range of strength perfect for our needs, going from 0 - 120. They also have a vibration function which we've found to be effective for many dogs.
For inexperienced dogs we start at a low setting and find a working level (a number your dog responds to).
While this is not meant to be a pleasant experience for your dog - no rattlesnake encounter should be positively reinforced! - we also do not want a dog to shut down or be traumatized which would result in them learning nothing.
Our trainer will be constantly adjusting their corrections based on your dogs reactions and body language.
We are based in Reno, NV!
Currently we hold classes in Nevada, Northern California, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, and Colorado with many of our events being annual stops. We will be adding new Arizona locations soon!
